Jason Tibor, a student in the M.A. Program in Communication, has received Honorable Mention Award in the Graduate Category of the 2010 Women Studies Essay Contest. The research essay that Jason submitted for the contest was titled “Frag Dolls: A Case Study in Gender, Representation and Video Games”. The focus was on exploring the use of Internet by a social networking group while applying the concepts of “voice” and “technofeminism”.
Jason was one of the three graduate students of communication who submitted research essays on “gender and the Internet” cases, which were developed in Dr Slavka Antonova’s graduate course “Gender, culture, and communication”, in Spring 2010. The three students, Peter Koprince, Eric Netterlund, and Jason Tibor, presented their research papers in October 2010 at the Red River Women Studies conference hosted by the UND.
In a message sent to Jason Tibor and his instructor, Prof. Kathleen Dixon, Director of the UND Women and Gender Studies Program, stated, “Thanks to the both of you for your interest in scholarship in the area of women and gender studies. We are excited about what you are doing and are pleased to recognize and promote it”.
